Milk framework free of plastic straws

We are delighted that from 8 March 2021, our milk framework is free of plastic straws with framework supplier Müller Milk & Ingredients, changing to recyclable paper straws on their recyclable milk cartons.

This is a positive step forward for Scotland’s sustainability drive to reduce plastic and we’ve worked closely with Müller to bring about the change.

Councils across the country use the framework to source milk cartons for schools and many have been keen to see straws changed from plastic to paper.

Julie Welsh, Chief Executive of Scotland Excel, said: “It’s great news that Müller Milk & Ingredients have made the change from plastic straws to paper straws for their small cartons, meaning Scotland Excel’s milk framework is now free of plastic straws. This will be welcome news to our member councils who are working hard to recycle more and reduce their use of plastic.”
