Price negotiation saves local government £190,000 a year

Scotland Excel is working with councils to identify savings opportunities

Scotland Excel has negotiated a price reduction with a major Scottish supplier for a drink product purchased by school catering teams.

The price negotiation on Barr’s Rubicon is part of Scotland Excel’s work to save councils money and was implemented at the start of 2023. It will save Scottish local government a collective £190,000 a year.

Council catering teams source Rubicon, and many other items for schools, through Scotland Excel’s Groceries framework.

Julie Welsh, Chief Executive of Scotland Excel, said: “This is good news. We are working closely with our 32 member councils to look at the various ways we can achieve savings. That includes price negotiations, looking for opportunities for councils to work together to save costs, and aggregated contracts - among other things. We look forward to this work continuing and I welcome the Rubicon price saving.”
