Talking “sustainable change” with Hey Girls
Social enterprise recognised as 'Heroes of Net Zero' finalists
A supplier to Scotland Excel’s washroom solutions framework, Hey Girls, has spoken to the Scottish Government’s Public Procurement and Property team about their social and ethical approach to business. The award-winning social enterprise was the only Scottish finalist in the ‘Heroes of Net Zero’ competition which was held during COP26.
Hey Girls supply environmentally friendly sanitary products to our members through an innovative ‘buy one, donate one’ approach that helps to fund the fight to end period poverty in the UK.
They tendered for the framework in 2018 in response to the Scottish Government’s call to provide ‘period dignity’ for people in education in Scotland. Their participation helps the public sector to provide free sanitary products in schools, colleges and universities.
From small beginnings, Hey Girls have grown to employ 21 people and are committed to paying the Real Living Wage. They have some great advice for SMEs and social enterprises interested in working with the public sector.
