Flagship new build contract is launched at innovative construction event
Our second generation new build framework was launched at our Estates Management Expo
Scotland Excel launched its £1.5bn New Build Residential Construction Framework at its first ever Estates Management Expo recently.
More than 180 delegates from across the public sector came together at the Glasgow event to hear from the country’s leading experts in construction, related professional services and property maintenance.
Hugh Carr, Scotland Excel’s Director of Strategic Procurement, announced that the new build framework tender process has concluded - adding that the 18 successful contractors are Scottish - before handing over to the keynote speaker, Morag Angus, Scottish Government’s Head of Property and Construction.
Hugh said: “This was the first time Scotland Excel put construction procurement at the heart of an event, where we considered the whole construction cycle and how innovation can support the built environment. It was therefore fitting to launch the second generation of our New Build Residential Construction Framework at the event, as this is the flagship of our specialist construction portfolio.”
The 17 September event’s conference focused on the construction journey themes of design, build, maintain and improve, and looked at what the future may hold for the built environment.
Speakers include Professor Sean Smith, Director of Centre of Future Infrastructure at the University of Edinburgh, and Christine Gaiger, a renowned architect and former president of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS).
The Expo’s exhibition zone provided an opportunity for delegates to meet with Scotland Excel framework suppliers to discuss their construction journey and consider new and innovative ways of working.
Julie Welsh, Scotland Excel’s Chief Executive, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to host the country’s leading experts in construction and property maintenance, and bring them together with our members and stakeholders to collaborate, share best practice and consider real change through new ways of working. My thanks go to all our speakers, exhibitors and delegates who joined us to make the day such a fantastic success.
“I also welcome the launch of our second generation New Build Residential Construction Framework. This strengthens our suite of construction frameworks – the leading construction and property management portfolio within the Scottish public sector - helping public bodies to engage suppliers at every point in the construction cycle.”
Morag Angus, Head of Property and Construction and Chief Surveyor at the Scottish Government, added: “I am delighted to have been able to speak at the Scotland Excel Estates Management Expo. We face challenging times, although we still need to deliver quality outputs contributing to quality outcomes, which have a positive impact for the people of Scotland. Efficient processes and capable and experienced people collaborating, are key to that.”
